Summoning is the power used by Summoners, and relies on 4 different skills: Summon, Control, Bind, and Banish. Each skill, when used in a Ritual, has a Zeon Cost and a target difficulty depending on the level of the creature targeted.

Summon, Control, and Bind may all be used on the same turn if the player wishes, and may, in fact, be used as part of the same Ritual. This is most effective when making use of a long ritual to summon and control a creature, as the creature is not in any way restricted in it's actions until you've controlled it.

All of these costs are one time. Once a creature is on Gaia, it remains until banished, and once controlled, it remains controlled until it breaks free. The only exception is binding: The cost must be paid every day to keep the creature bound.

A Controlled creature can attempt to free itself from it's control once per hour or if it receives an order that is against it's nature. If it attempts to do so, the summoner must make a Control check against the original difficulty, but does not receive the bonus or penalty for time spent on the ritual. They do receive any other bonus, however. This check does not cost additional Zeon.

A Bound creature's essence is frozen. It does not gain XP, cannot free itself from Control if controlled, and cannot gain levels. While it is within it's container, it is further immune to any other summoning abilities, and cannot interact with the world in any way. A Bound creature does not regain Zeon normally. Instead, it regains Zeon equal to the cost paid to maintain the binding.

Creatures may only be bound into objects with a Presence equal to or greater than theirs. However the Presence of a living creature used as a container counts for double.

Banishing a creature only requires suspecting that one is in the area. The difference by which a summoner beats the requried difficulty determines, in days, the time before the creature may return under it's own power. So succeeding by 20, for example, will force the creature to wait 20 days before it can return.

Affecting the Rolls:

The ritual gets a bonus or penalty depending on how long you spent on it.

Time Spent Bonus/Penalty
Immediate -100
Full Turn -50
Three Turns -20
Five Turns 0
One Minute +10
One Hour +20
Six Hours +30
A Day +40
A Week +50
A Month +60
Six Months +70
A Year +80
Five Years +90
Ten Years +100
Fifty+ Years +120

Since the penalties for failure can be somewhat drastic, an effective summoner will work to gain as many bonuses as possible, such as by learning a specific creature's true name, or possessing a part of that creature.

Summoning Modifiers Bonus
Know the being's True Name +20
Possess an object that belongs to it +10
Possess a part of it +20
Don't know the type of creature* -50

*This penalty only applies to summon checks, not to control, bind, or banish checks.

Group Summoning:

Groups can summon a creature together if they fulfill the following criteria:

  • All members have a summon skill within 50 of each other.
  • Each member put the full amount of time into the ritual.

Doing so gives the highest member a +10 per member of the circle, and allows the Zeon cost to be split freely, though each member must contribute at least 10 Zeon.

Who Can be affected:

Beings Between Worlds and Spirits can be affected by Summoning skills, and only such beings can be affected.Entities with Gnosis of 30+ cannot be controlled. Entities with Gnosis 35+ cannot be bound. Entities with Gnosis 40+ may freely ignore attempts to summon or bind them.

Resistance:

The Special Bonuses to MR of a creature are added to the difficulty required to summon a creature.
